METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CDMA SIGNAL ORTHOGONALIZATION

Orthogonalization techniques are disclosed which can beused, for example, to improve subtraction of CDMA signalsfrom a composite spread spectrum signal or to improvedetection of CDMA signals from the composite spread spectrumsignal. According to exemplary embodiments, a Gram-Schmidtorthogonalization process is used to modify signaturesequences which are each associated with a particular CDMAsignal in the spread spectrum composite signal. Thesemodified signature sequences can then be used to spreadcorrelations of the original signature sequences in thesubtraction process or in the detection process to improveperformance. Pre-orthogonalization according to the presentinvention, eliminates or mitigates multiple accessinterference.
