This invention is a percutaneous filtration catheter used to entrap embolifrom a patient's aorta, and heart during cardiac surgery. Thecatheter has an elongate member (1), a proximal end (3), and a distal end (2).A balloon occludent (5) is mounted on the distal end of theelongate member, and an expandable filter (10) is mounted on the elongatemember distal the balloon occludent. Methods for using thedevices is also disclosed herein.
