A method for shielding discarded or unwanted items provided with a RadioFrequency Identification (RFID) tag, comprises the following steps. First, afacilitycontaining an inventory including a plurality of products each including aradio frequencyidentification (RFID) tag is provided. Then, the facility is provided with anRFID wastecollection container defining a magnetic shielding enclosure for shielding andelectromagnetically isolating the RFID tags when the products are disposedtherein. Next, itis determined if one of the plurality of products is not wanted. Subsequently,the unwantedproduct is discarded by placing the unwanted product into the RFID wastecollectioncontainer so that the RFID tag of the unwanted product does not interfere withongoingactivities in the facility by emitting errant signals.
