The permanent magnet DC motor has a stator (11) with a ferromagnetic stator yoke (12) provided with equi-angularly spaced stator poles (13), projecting radially inwards, each provided by a number of adjacent flat square magnets (14) applied to the inside surface of the stator yoke and enclosed by a ferromagnetic pole shoe (15) having a curved outer surface. The thickness of the flat square magnets varies from one to the other in the magnetisation direction, symmetrical to the centre line of the stator pole.
