Self-adhesive bubble wrap for protecting frish paints in vehicle assembling and process for producing the same

Film construction comprises a first carrier film(1) and a second carrier film(2) with air-filled naps(2a). A polyethylene film(3a) with a self adhesive coating(3c) is permanently adhered to the naps. A coupling layer(3b) is applied between the polyethylene film(3a) and the adhesive layer(3c). An independent claim is included for a process for manufacturing the self adhesive air cushion film in which: a) a second carrier film(2) is extruded onto a transfer roll which guides it onto a thermoforming roll with nap-shaped recesses and a vacuum area; b) naps are formed in the film in the vacuum area; c) an extruded first carrier film(1) is guided by a transfer roll onto the thermoformed second carrier film; d) a polyethylene film(3a) with a self-adhesive layer(3c) is applied by rolls of a laminating station onto the naps of the second carrier film under a pressure which flattens the nap heads, but does not compress the naps; e) hot air at 180[deg]C is directed via a nozzle into a gap between the polyethylene film and second carrier film so that the nap heads and polyethylene film are welded together.
