There is provided a system that automatically delivers, monitors and replenishes a string of packaging cushions (11) to hoppers (30) located at multiple packing stations (40) through an elongated cushion delivery duct (20) having a series of intermediate outlets (23) to permit the string of cushions (11) to drop into the hopper (30) located below the delivery duct (20) and above the packing station (40). A blower (24) is positioned near the inlet (21) of the elongated duct (20) to provide air flow in the duct (20) to carry the string of cushions (11) through the duct (20) to one of the outlets (23). When the hopper (30) is full of cushions, sensors (31) signal the controller to close the diverter (25) and the string of cushions (11) is delivered to another packaging station (40). The system may include a knife assembly (35) to cut the string of cushions (11) holding pins (36) and a tension-relief gate (52), which it is located at the inlet (21) of the duct (20) to hold tension on the string of cushions (11) while the string (11) is being separated. The tension release gate (52) also has the purpose of relieving tension on the machine (10) producing cushions during the machines feed/fill cycle.
