In order to use media-data servers on an industrial scale, there is a demand for a method and device which can limit control actuation of media-data playback. The invention comprises a method and a device for playing back media data, wherein a client uses a predetermined application programming interface and media-data-playback control actuation is limited, and media data received from a media server is played back based on limited control actuation.
