A method for the reception of daughter ion spectra of peptide ions in an ion traps - a mass spectrometer, comprising the steps of:(a) filling of the ion trap with ions and recording of a mass spectrum,(b) testing of this mass spectrum and a selection of a parents ions locations from which a daughter ions spectrum is to be measured,(c) filling of the ion trap with ions and isolation of the selected parents ions locations,(d) fragmentation of the ions of the selected parents ions locations,(e) receiving the daughter ions spectrum,(f) examination of the daughter ions spectrum for the occurrence of a dominant type, and(g) in the case of the deposit of a dominant type of: selecting a parents ions locations for receiving a second daughter ions spectrum under extended or changed fragmentation conditions and repeating the steps c) to e), wherein between said steps d) and e) a resonant excitation of the dominant type is.
