The method involves providing an engine control unit and an additional control device, where the engine control unit activates the additional control device. An injector i.e. gas injector (16), is activated by the additional control device such that the injector is heated or rendered viable by moving its valve pin. The additional control device controls the injector based on pulse profile of the engine control unit. The injector is heated when the rail is completely emptied, where length of the pulses for activating the injector are set to maximum. An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for heating an injector of an engine.
