The drive device (1) has a component (4) to be driven, and a rope (5) such as wire rope, belt rope, belt, partly winding around the component. A stretching device (13) temporarily stretches the rope, and a drive unit (9) drives the component using the rope. The stretching device has a pitch surface (11), formed at an outer circumference of the drive unit, for the rope with different distances to a movement pole (15). The stretching device and a component of the drive unit are designed as a single-piece. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a locking system.
