The vehicle has a display (12) for displaying variable information. A touch screen (11) is arranged above the display for entering commands by touching the touch screen. An operating device (4) has a display control (10) for representing operating masks on the display depending on acoustic commands taking place during an approximation of a hand at the touch screen and included by a microphone (20). A proximity sensor (5) identifies the approximation of the hand at the touch screen by using output signals. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a motor vehicle.
