The method involves utilizing a display (12) for representing an adjustable control element e.g. piston valve. A touch screen (11) is arranged over the display for recognizing contact at the touch screen in a region of the control element. The control element is enlargedly represented while touching the touch screen in the region of the control element. A motor vehicle function (15) e.g. receiving frequency of a radio of the vehicle, associated with the control element is carried out by touching the touch screen in the control element region. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle with a display.
