The method involves connecting a high-pressure region (3) of a fuel injection system i.e. common-rail-injection system, with injectors (5) for injecting of fuel into a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine of a vehicle. Fuel pressure in the high-pressure region is measured with a preset sampling rate by a pressure sensor (6), before and after pressure rise in a high-pressure pump (2). A periodic sequence of injection-limiting pressure drop and the pressure rise caused by the high-pressure pump is detected. An independent claim is also included for a fuel injection system including a controlling- and/or regulating unit controlling or regulating components of the system.
