The method involves inserting three cables (8, 9, 10) in a flexible tubular membrane (26), and exerting tension on the cables to bring the membrane in configuration, where the configuration has a predetermined transversal section. A tubular element (25) containing an active substance is inserted in the membrane, and the element is maintained in the membrane. The tension is released on the cables, and the cables are removed from the membrane. An independent claim is also included for an installation for implementing a method for positioning a membrane around an element of an intra-uterine contraceptive device.
