REAGENT FOR DETECTING TYPE OF ALLELE BASED ON POLYMORPHISM OF SIGLEC 14 GENE

PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medically useful means through clarifying siglec 14 protein's expression, similar siglec 5 protein and its functions or relationships at gene level, etc. PSOLUTION: There are individual variations on siglec 14 protein expression, and persons expressing no siglec 14 protein have siglec 14/5 fusion gene. Polymorphism is present in the siglec 14 gene. The siglec 14 protein is expressed on a leukocyte, and the above individual variations contribute to a factor of accidents associated with blood transfusion. There is significant difference in TNF-α production level between cells expressing the siglec 14 protein and those expressing no siglec 14 protein, differing in reaction to infectious diseases. Based on the above facts, a reagent for detecting the polymorphism of the siglec 14 gene, containing a primer pair specifically amplifying the siglec 14 gene, a probe specifically hybridizable with the siglec 14 gene or an antibody specifically recognizing the siglec 14 protein, has been developed.
