PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foreign matter detection device for a hole sewing machine by which a monitoring load on a user is reduced and chipping of a hammer and a knife and damage of cloth are prevented.;SOLUTION: The foreign matter detection device for the hole sewing machine (1) including the knife (11), a feed bar (4), the hammer (12), a support table (14), a motion mechanism (40), a drive unit (50), and a control means (20), includes: a detection means (30) which is provided on the support table and vertically moves together with a hammer to surround a range where the hammer vertically moves, and disposed below the hammer to be in contact with an object positioned therebelow; and a storage means (24) to store the limit value of descending amount of the hammer from an initial position where no presence of the foreign matter on a workpiece can be recognized. The control means makes the drive unit continue driving when the descending amount of the hammer from the initial position is not lower than the limit value at the point of time detected by the detection means, and, when the amount is lower than the limit value, makes the drive unit stop driving.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
