PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the state where the optimum recording reserving device for reservation of recording cannot be selected from a plurality of recording devices connected with a network. PSOLUTION: The device selection supporting apparatus comprises: a network interface 106 for network communication with a client utilizing services; a server accumulation data storage unit 109 for storing the predetermined server accumulation data; an index data storage unit 111 for storing the index data as the information showing characteristic of the server accumulation data; an index data request processing unit 107 for processing an index data acquiring request from the client; and an index data processing unit 110 for generating index data from the data of the server accumulation data storage unit 109 and storing the index data to the index data storage unit 111. When the index data acquiring request is received with the network interface 106, the index data request storage unit 107 acquires the index data from the index data storage unit 111 and transmits such index data from the network interface 106.
