PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bearing material for a porous hydrostatic gas bearing in which a porous sintered metal layer and a backing metal made of stainless steel can firmly joined and integrated without causing peeling or the like therebetween, further, the porosity of the porous sintered metal layer is increased, and the floating amount of a shaft to be floated-up by compressed gas circulating through the porous sintered metal layer can be increased, and to provide a porous hydrostatic gas bearing obtained by using the same.;SOLUTION: The bearing material includes a backing metal 2 made of stainless steel; and a porous sintered metal layer 4 integrated with at least one surface of the backing metal 2 by means of a bonding layer 3, particles of an inorganic substance being contained in a dispersed manner at grain boundaries of the porous sintered metal layer 4, wherein in the porous sintered metal layer 4 containing the particles of the inorganic substance are composed of 4 to 10% tin, by weight, 10 to 40% Ni, not less than 0.1 and less than 0.5% phosphorus, and the balance copper.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
