The unit has a working spindle (1) with a tool fitting at its one end, where an electric motor (3) rotatably drives the working spindle. The motor has a stator (4), which is arranged in housing (10), and a rotor (5). The stator and rotor have lengths, which are aligned in an axial direction with respect to shifting distance of the working spindle in such a manner that the rotor is driven out partially from the cover with the stator in an idle position of the working spindle. A section (8) of the working spindle has a diameter equal to or less than the diameter of the rotor.
