A dental material containing an amide including a hydrocarbon and residues B and X with one or more O, S, NH, CO-NH, O-CO-NH and/or NH-CO-NH groups, a group bonded to a nitrogen atom or C-2 of residue B, where the bonding position not bonded to B carries an R2 residue,R1 = H, 1-20C alkyl, or phenyl, where two or more X residues share an R1 residue and where R1 can be a component of residue B,R2 = H, 1-20C alkyl or phenyl, n = 2-5 is new. A dental material containing an amide of formula BXn in which B = an n-fold X substituted 1-50C hydrocarbon with one or more O, S, NH, CO-NH, O-CO-NH and/or NH-CO-NH groups, X = a group of formula (I): which is bonded a nitrogen atom or C-2 of residue B, where the bonding position not bonded to B carries an R2 residue, R1 = H, 1-20C alkyl, phenyl, where two or more X residues share an R1 residue and where R1 can be a component of residue B, R2 = H, 1-20C alkyl or phenyl, n = 2-5.
