A double carpet weaving loom has a toothed belt drive for a knife slide (2) separating the upper and lower weaves. The drive belt (21, 22) passes above and below the double carpet (5) via a sequence of guide rollers (15, 15') moved back and forth by a drive sprocket (23, 24). The knife slide moves along a guide (13) through a range (S) which is more than twice the carpet width (B). The sprocket is located under the slide range mid-point. The sprocket is located beneath the slide guide and below the lower weave. Two further toothed drive belt guide rollers (16, 16') are located above the sprocket. Alternatively the drive arrangement is a drum (24) and wire (22). The knife slide is powered by a servo motor (3) or via a gear linked to the loom motor.
