PURPOSE: An image encoding/decoding method using block conversion and an apparatus thereof are provided to predict all pixels of a current block from the nearest pixel according to a prediction direction, thereby encoding/decoding an image.;CONSTITUTION: A subtracting unit(430) generates a rectangular residual block by subtracting a rectangular current block and a rectangular prediction block. A rearranging unit(440) rearranges the rectangular residual block by a square residual block. A converting unit(450) converts the square residual block into a frequency domain.
