PURPOSE: An ultrasound system and a method for automatically controlling image depth are provided to reduce a repetitive operation of a user by automatically controlling the image depth for forming an ultrasound image on an object.;CONSTITUTION: A storage unit(120) stores a mapping table for providing image depth information corresponding to pregnancy weeks according to a sort of a transceiver(110) transmitting and receiving an ultrasound signal. A user input unit(130) receives the selection information of the transceiver and the pregnancy information from a user. The controller calculates the pregnancy weeks using the pregnancy period information. The controller extracts the image depth information corresponding to the calculated pregnancy weeks and the selection information of the transceiver at a mapping table. The controller controls the image depth for forming the ultrasound image on the object using the extracted image depth information.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2010
