A LICENCE PLATE RECOGNITION METHOD BASED ON GEOMETRIC RELATIONS OF NUMBERS ON THE PLATE

PURPOSE: A license plate recognition method based on geometric relations of numbers on the plate is provided to extract major numbers using geometric relations among license plate character candidates directly, thereby providing more independent and quick algorithm than a surrounding environment. CONSTITUTION: A previously photographed image is binarized. MBRs(Minimum Boundary Rectangles) which can be digitally acknowledged in an image are detected. Geometric relation about each MBR is produced(S309). Similarity about the geometric relation among the MBRs is determined. An energy function among adjacent MBRs is set(S311). Numbers on a license plate about the candidate areas of the MBRs are extracted(S315).
