Precise and accurate positioning of a data carrier in a receptacle in a licence plate body of a licence plate is particularly complex. Owing to the required precision and the accompanying complexity of the production process of a licence plate that comprises a data carrier, increased manufacturing costs are to be expected. The invention provides a method and a device by means of which a licence plate (17, 19) can be produced in a favourable manner. This is achieved by means of a label (11) being assigned to a licence plate body (16) of the licence plate (17, 19) or to a metal sheet (10) for producing a plurality of licence plate bodies (16).
