The controller has a control unit and two interfaces, where one of the interfaces transmits control signals for adjusting light distribution and a vertical light/dark boundary. The other interface reads the information about an object angle of a vehicle (1), where the angle is as an angle in a horizontal plane that is formed between the vehicle and a vertical plane. The control unit compares the read object angle with a threshold value. The control unit produces control signals for switching adjustment of the boundary of main headlights with the object angle lesser than the threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling main headlights with an adjustable vertical light/dark boundary of a motor vehicle.
