The method involves providing a friction clutch (4) with a drive-side clutch element (8), a driven-side clutch element (9) and a control unit (11). A stationary operating condition of the friction clutch is detected. An actual slip between the clutch elements is determined. A slip comparison is accomplished by comparing the actual slip with a slip threshold value. An evaluation ratio is changed in dependence of the slip comparison, and the target slip is changed in dependence of the evaluation ratio.
