In the present paper, friction behavior between friction-facing and pressure-plate used in the clutch system of the automobile was investigated.Effects of inertia and rotating speed of friction-facing on the characteristics of the friction, especially coefficient of friction and surface temperature on the pressure-plate were discussed. Friction tests were carried out with nine experimental conditions. That is, four kinds of inertia and five kinds of rotating speed of friction-facing were selected.Changes in torque, load, temperature and rotating speed were recorded during the operation. And also, wear loss of the friction-facing during the operation was estimated measuring its thikness. Two kinds of material for friction-facing were used in the experiments. The following conclutions were obtained.Coefficient of friction is greatly affected by rotating speed, that is,as the speed indreases, coefficient of friction is inclined to decrease.Coefficient of friction suddenly increases if the temperature rises to 300 °C .Wear damage in friction-facing is subjected to the influence of the inertia-loading and rotating speed-loading,and the operating condition of low absorbing energy and low speed contribute to prolong the life time of the clutch elements.
