The method involves highly concentrating separated heavy component (51) that is compressed into a periphery of a drum (47), in oblong hollows (50) with constant supply by centrifugal energy. The drum and the respective hollow are pulled out through an opening (52) in concentrated condition to accommodate the component in a ring chamber (4). A hollow (59) is designed such that the gas present in the ring chamber is extracted by progressive movement in an axial direction for compressing the heavy component. An independent claim is also included for a centrifuge comprising a rotor.
