PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly rise up an engine speed, by properly controlling an air-fuel ratio of all cylinders in a first combustion cycle.;SOLUTION: As a four-cylinder engine is started, firstly, a primary fuel injection amount TSTAF in the first combustion cycle is set based on a cooling water temperature Tw (S2). Secondly, number of times of fuel injection is counted and it is found whether or not second injection is finished (S4). When the second injection is finished, a secondary fuel injection amount TSTAS is set based on the cooling water temperature Tw. Since the secondary fuel injection amount TSTAS is supplied to a cylinder of third injection and a cylinder of first injection at an expansion stroke performs work by combustion while the cylinder of third injection is at an intake stroke, volumetric efficiency of the cylinder of the third injection is increased. The secondary fuel injection amount TSTAS is set to be a value increased by increase in volumetric efficiency.
