PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a barrel of a writing utensil which can easily make a gripping part of a pliable and easy-to-grip shape an integral part of the barrel and save a sorting-out trouble during discarding the writing utensil, and the writing utensil using this barrel.;SOLUTION: A wood is compression-molded using a mold, then a male thread part 2c, the gripping part 2b and a cylindrical barrel part 2a are provided in the barrel longitudinal direction, and a barrel 2 with a barrel hole 2d opened in the barrel interior, is used. Further, the compression modulus of each part differs. The compression modulus of the gripping part 2b is relatively lower than those of the other parts such as the male thread part 2c and the cylindrical barrel part 2a.
