PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing unit having a unit main body rotatably supporting a developing roller in a unit case having a toner storage part and a toner cartridge attachably/detachably attached to the unit main body, where the toner storage part is replenished with toner without rupturing a detecting piece when the toner in the toner cartridge is consumed and the toner cartridge is exchanged.;SOLUTION: The toner cartridge 9 is provided with a non-volatile memory 17 in which data on the new one is written, and the toner storage part is replenished with toner T1 in the new toner cartridge 9 by reading the data on the new one stored in the memory 17 when the new toner cartridge 9 is attached to the unit main body 8.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
