The process for preparing nanoparticles of the nickel with high catalytic activity resides in the fact that the reaction an aqueous solution of a photochemically and / or radiochemically sensitive compound containing nickel ions with the addition of scavengers -OH radical which is preferably selected from the group consisting of aliphatic alcohols or polyvinyl alcohol, or salts of organic acids containing anion -COO.sup .-. n., irradiated by UV radiation or gamma radiation of energy greater than 1 MeV or by accelerated electrons with energy 1-6 MeV dose of 5-150 Gy to give a finely dispersed solid phase of nickel oxide, solid phase is separated by ultrafiltration and dried at 100 degC and then the heat treatment at 200 to 600 degC.
