The invention relates to a method for stiffening a protective structure of a rock drilling rig, and a protective structure (7) of a rock drilling rig, the protective structure surrounding, at least partly, a drill rod, a rock drill or a feed device of the rock drilling rig. At least some drill rods (9) laying in wait for use are fastened to the protective structure (7) in order to make the protective structure (7) stiffer during use of the rock drilling rig (1).
