The present invention provides a composition comprising an IP₃ receptor-binding protein (IRBIT), a nucleic acid that controls the expression and translation of IRBIT, or an antibody against IRBIT for controlling at least one intracellular biological function selected from the group consisting of (1) protein synthesis, (2) phosphatidylinositol metabolism, and (3) intracellular pH.
