The system (1) has a consumer controlled by a direction control valve (5a). Electrical pressure difference regulation is provided for regulation of conveying volumes of a pump (2). The pump exhibits a sensor device for detecting pressure difference formed from highest load pressure of multiple consumers, and a supply pressure of the pump. The pump exhibits an electronic control device (7) that adjusts the pump such that the pressure difference corresponds to preset regulating pressure difference. The electronic control device implements referencing of the sensor device. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a hydrostatic drive system for a mobile work machine.
