The apparatus comprises a quasi-phase matching medium equipped with a hollow cylinder (101) during four-wave mixing of light waves. The hollow cylinder is filled with a nonlinear medium (102), which has a third-order nonlinearity. An optically transparent window (105) is located at one end of the hollow cylinder. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an apparatus for amplification of laser radiation by four-wave mixing; (2) a method for frequency conversion of laser radiation by four-wave mixing; and (3) a method for amplification of laser radiation by four-wave mixing.
