The device (10) has a mold area (16) filled with granulates, and a wall (14) formed opposite to another wall (12) and enclosing the mold area. The two walls are displaceable along an axis (A) for varying a volume of the mold area and comprises two displaceable side walls (18, 22), respectively. A steam space (37) partly surrounds the mold area and controls temperature and/or pressure in the mold area. The steam space is partly defined by the two walls, and guide units (40, 42, 44) are provided for supplying and discharging fluid i.e. water vapor, into and out of the mold area. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a foam material block.
