The apparatus (1) has a device for detecting a charge state of a battery (2) i.e. lithium-ion battery, where a transponder (11) i.e. radio frequency identification transponder, is arranged in an area of the battery for wireless transmission of the detected charge state to a reading device (12). The battery includes a battery management system (10), where the device or the transponder is designed as a part of the management system. The management system is connected to a connection device via a plug connector. The management system is activated by the connection device or in an automatic way. An independent claim is also included for a method for reading-out a charge state of a battery in a non-connected state.
