The method involves determining pitch of a road, and controlling vertical alignment of a radar beam based on the pitch of road in an oscillating manner, where the radar beam is emitted by a vehicle (101). A backscatter signal of the radar beam is measured, and a vehicle function is influenced based on the backscatter signal. The emitted radar beam is vertically adjusted in a periodical manner. Height of an illuminated object e.g. traversing obstacle on road, another vehicle (102), bicyclist, motor-cyclist, pedestrian, bridge and tunnel, is determined based on the backscatter signal. An independent claim is also included for a device for radar-assisted control of a function of a vehicle.
