The control apparatus has a self aligning torque detection unit (101) that detects the self aligning torque of front wheel at the time of driving the vehicle. A vehicle speed detecting unit (102) detects travel speed or wheel speed of vehicle. An estimation steering angle calculating unit (103) calculates the estimation steering angle based on detected self aligning torque, travel speed or wheel speed. The gear ratio is calculated based on the calculated estimation steering angle.
