PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescence enhancing element for markedly enhancing the fluorescence intensity of a fluorescent material.;SOLUTION: Lamellar metal particles (especially silver particles) with a cross-sectional particle size of below a wavelength of about 100-800 nm and a thickness of several ten nm are used as a fundamental element and densely arranged on a substrate as an island film and a fluorescent substance is supported on the surface of the island film on the substrate in a single-layer or a multi-layer. A spacer may be provided to the surfaces of the metal particles in order to regulate the distances between the surfaces of the metal particles and the fluorescent substance. If this fluorescence enhancing element is used, emission efficiency only raised by about several% in a conventional fluorescence enhancing element can be enhanced up to about 50% and the emission of a coloring matter dispersed layer having relatively high emission properties can be further enhanced.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
