The invention relates to an adapter for a vacuum cleaner bag, having a preferably plate-like body (12) having a hole-like recess (14), having an annular fitting (16) disposed on the body (12) for fastening the adapter (10) to a device-specific vacuum cleaner bag retaining plate (30) that can be attached on or in a vacuum cleaner, wherein the annular fitting (16) comprises an annular end face (20) spaced apart from the body (12) on the side of the fitting (16) facing away from the body (12), wherein the end of the annular fitting (16) facing toward the body (12) comprises the recess (14) and wherein the end of the annular fitting (16) facing away from the body (12) comprises a circumference suitable for enclosing an opening (32) in the device-specific vacuum cleaner bag retaining plate (30), and having a retaining device (22) for a retaining plate (36) of a vacuum cleaner bag (38), wherein the retaining device (22) is disposed on a side of the body (12) facing away from the annular fitting (16) and comprises a rail guide in which the retaining plate (36) of the vacuum cleaner bag (38) can be inserted such that an opening in the retaining plate (36) of the vacuum cleaner bag (38) can be brought into at least partially overlapping arrangement with the hole-like recess (14).
