PURPOSE: Device and method for detecting the edge defects of a steel sheet using visible ray are provided to accurately detect the state and position of the edge defect of a steel sheet by detecting the edge defect of the steel sheet using visible ray.;CONSTITUTION: A device for detecting the edge defects of a steel sheet using visible ray comprises an image taking unit, and a defect detecting unit. The image taking unit irradiates visible rat to a steel sheet to detect the entire width of the steel sheet. The image taking unit comprises left and right visible-ray cameras(4,5), and an LED block(6). The defect detecting unit is connected to the image taking unit by cables. The defect detecting unit processes the images taken by the image taking unit in an image processing technique.
