PURPOSE: An electric power steering apparatus having fail-safe function is provided to shut down the current supplied to a motor in case the cycle of motor control.;CONSTITUTION: An electric power steering apparatus(100) having fail-safe function comprises a steering torque sensor(110), a vehicle speed sensor(111), a primary electronic control unit(112a), a motor driving unit(113a), a relay unit(113b), a motor current detection unit(114), and a secondary electronic control unit(112b). The steering torque sensor senses steering torque applied to a handle(102) and outputs steering torque signals. The vehicle speed sensor senses vehicle speed and outputs the speed signals. The primary electronic control unit outputs current control signals compensating the difference of an object current and a real current. The motor driving unit supplies power to a motor. The relay unit supplies a current for starting of the motor. The motor current detection unit measures the real current in a motor and outputs the result to the primary electronic control unit.
