1. An oxidation method for producing an aromatic carboxylic acid, said method comprising contacting in the presence of a catalyst in a continuous flow reactor of one or more precursors of an aromatic carboxylic acid with an oxidizing agent, where contacting is carried out with said precursor (s) and an oxidizing agent in an aqueous solvent containing water under supercritical conditions or near supercritical conditions, where the specified catalyst contains copper. ! 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the catalyst further comprises one or more additional metals other than copper. ! 3. The method of claim 2, wherein said one or more additional metals are selected from transition metals. ! 4. The method of claim 2, wherein said one or more additional metals are selected from manganese, cobalt, zirconium, hafnium, vanadium, chromium, molybdenum, iron, nickel and cerium. ! 5. The method of claim 2, wherein the [M]: [Cu] molar ratio is not more than about 500: 1, where [M] is the total molar amount of the other metal (s). ! 6. The method of claim 2, wherein the catalyst further comprises cobalt. ! 7. The method of claim 2, wherein the copper-containing catalyst comprises cobalt and the Co: Cu molar ratio is between 1: 1 and 10: 1. ! 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the ion of each metal present in the catalyst is represented as its bromide. ! 9. The method of claim 1, wherein the catalyst comprises copper and cobalt, wherein at least one of said metals is bromide. ! 10.
