A platform cooling arrangement of a turbine rotor blade has a platform having a cooling channel (116) formed therein. The platform cooling assembly includes: a main volume (132) disposed slightly inboard relative to the planar top surface and extending within the pressure side and / or suction side of the platform from a rearward position to a forwardmost position, the main volume (132) being a longitudinal axis which is oriented approximately parallel to the planar top surface; a delivery volume (134) extending between the main volume (132) and the inner cooling channel (116); and a plurality of cooling holes (136), each cooling hole (136) extending away from the pressure side and / or suction side gap surfaces (126) to communicate with the main volume (132).
