The method involves providing communication between a transponder (1) and a reader (2) via signals, and determining a distance between the transponder and the reader based on the signals. Temperature of the transponder is changed by a power dissipation component of the transponder. A direction in which the change in temperature of the transponder is detected, is determined by an infrared sensor (3). A position of the transponder is determined in two or three dimensions based on the determined distance and the determined direction, where the reader is connected with the infrared sensor. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for locating a transponder.
