The device has a base housing (1), and a gear selector lever (3) movable between a drive position (D) and a parking lock position (P) along a shifting path. The gear selector lever is pivotably supported at a pivot point (2) in the housing. The lever is provided with a knob end and a force transmission end (8) arranged with respect to the knob end. A mechanical transmission unit (4) e.g. Bowden cable, is provided for parking brake operation. Gear rods (5, 7) and a step-up gear wheel (6) with reverse direction are arranged between the transmission end of the lever and the transmission unit.
