The method involves injecting liquid or gaseous fuel (K) into combustion chamber (B) and vaporizing the fuel so that a phase boundary surface is formed between the solid or liquid particles (T) in the fuel and fuel mixture. The solid or liquid particles are excited by laser light from one or more directions and scattered light from the particles are imaged with a camera to measure concentration and/or flow rate of fuel.
